Time for the first numeral in Hanja. To mix things up I won’t be tackling these numbers in a particular order and to prove that I’ll start with the number 9. In Hanja that is the character 九 [구]. This is a fairly simple character and as you can imagine besides as a number, it as little use in vocabulary, but let’s take a look anyway.
Hanja #8: 九 – 아홉 구
The hanja character九 [구] is the same as writing the number 9. It should be obvious, but I will mention it regardless, this character is the sino-Korean number 9, not the native Korean number. Like all numerals that will come, this character is generally used in things that have a numerical order such as the months in a year. Beyond that it has little to no use. Still it is a basic character and as such I will give it the royal treatment all Hanja deserve.
Please keep in mind that Hanja aren’t only used in words. You can also find hanja in names. Some names use some hanja for numerals. So do not completely disregard them.
