Time for another education centered Hanja. This time it’s time for 校 [교]. Once again this a basic hanja character most Koreans will know and is used in some pretty common Korean words.
For future reference: We’ll add links to the individual Hanja in the in Hanja spelled words when a post dedicated to that single Hanja is created. That will make navigating through the individual Hanja articles so much easier, don’t you think? At least that is what we hope you will think!
Hanja #5: 校 – 학교 교
The Hanja 校 [교] has a meaning very similar to 學 [학]. However, while 學 focuses on the learner, this character focuses more on the school itself. It is therefore not uncommon to see this character in words related to schools, academic personnel; etc. In fact the mentioned Hanja 學 forms the Korean word for school together with this character : 학교 (學校). It is an early word any Korean learner could theoretically draw in Hanja. However, writing in Hanja is antiquated as I have already discussed in our Hanja introduction post.
If you happen to know any other word you think has this 校 [교], let us know in the comments. Let us help each other expand our Korean vocabulary through Hanja.
