We return to the hanja word drills, but from now on the system will be a bit different. The results of this different setup is that the first new hanja word drill will be about a more advanced character 再 [재]. While more advanced, the words it yields are still very useful to learn. Let’s take a look.
Hanja Through Chinese
We return to the Hanja word drills, but this time the system will be entirely different. Previously I adhered to the hanja levels, but from now on I will use an entirely different method to select the hanja to discuss in each post. As you might have read in my final TOPIK post regarding my participation in the 55Th TOPIK exam, I recently started learning Chinese. I even started a little website to share my Chinese experiences, Morning Lands Hanyu. This will be integral to which hanja will come up.
As you know to master Chinese you have to learn a lot of characters. Many of those characters are also useful to know as Hanja and so every character that I learn for Chinese and is a useful hanja to know, I will discuss here in a hanja word drill.
Hanja #X: 再 – 두 재
The first hanja we’ll look at in this new format, is the character 再 [재]. This character represents ‘again’ and ‘once more’. Therefore you will see it a lot in Korean words where something is done again or reused. It can also be used when something happened even more in the past such as the year before last year, 재작년 [再昨年]. By the way in Chinese this character is 再 [zài].
If you happen to know any other word you think has this hanja, let us know in the comments.
