Even though we are near the end of our hanja journey, that needn’t mean we only will see more difficult hanja. This hanja is perhaps the easiest hanja to remember. The hanja is 山 [산] and I bet even without telling it you already have an idea what it means. Let’s take a look.
Hanja #48: 山 – 메 산
山 [산] is perhaps the easiest hanja anyone exploring hanja will come across. This character represents ‘mountain. Because of its meaning you will often see it used with all words that relate to a mountain in some way. Some of the popular activities such as hiking and mountain climbing incorporate this little hanja. So it is well worth the time to explore the possibilities of this character.
A lot of the mountains in Korea use this little 山 [산] in their names. It is often the final syllable of the name. One such mountain is 백두산 [白頭山] (Mount Baekdu), which is the tallest mountain on the Korean peninsula. It is located in North Korea for the most part. However, a part of it is in China so you can still visit the beautiful lake that is in that mountain range.
