We have come at the end of our family related hanja as we near the end of the level 8 hanja. This character is 母 [모] and like its partner 父 [부] it is a character you’ll come across a lot when you are delving into Korean family vocabulary. Let’s take a look at this character.
Hanja #46: 母 – 어머니 모
The hanja 母 [모] is a rather simple character. It represents one of the two most important people in anyone’s life: ‘mother’. So it will come to little surprise when I tell you, you’ll meet this character quite often when you are dealing with Korean family vocabulary. However, like the English word ‘mother’, it is sometimes used in a more figurative way.
One of the most important words it forms is with its partner character 父 [부] (father) to create the Korean word 부모 [父母] which is parents. In a way isn’t that a rather simple way to say parents?
If you happen to know any other word you think has this hanja, let us know in the comments.
