It has been a long time since I have done a Hanja word drill. Now, though, I return to the Chinese in Korean. I have slightly modified how I will tackle Hanja-related vocabulary. The basic idea stays the same: learning new Korean words with Hanja. The character for this auspicious post I have chosen, is quite the regal character 王 [왕], which is the character for “king”.
Hanja #7: 王 – 임금 왕
The character 王 [왕] is a basic character and one very easy to draw at that. However, like 火 [화] not a lot of basic Korean vocabulary actually uses this regal character. This is, of course, because you don’t discuss things related to kings and queens in your daily conversations. This character is placed as a basic character mainly due to its ease to draw. Plus, it is perhaps one of the most easily recognized characters.
If you happen to know any other word you think has this 王 [왕] , let us know in the comments.
Our 王 Vocabulary List
I decided to make these lists grow organically. Instead of adding a lot of words from the start, I will slowly add new words as we the other characters used to write the word. Because of this method some hanja world lists may be simply 1 or 2 words at first, but over time their word lists will grow as we uncover more Hanja.
