The Hanja 南 [남] is a rather useful character to know for you can use it with many words yourself. Understanding the character, therefore, will help you better use the Hanja to its full potential.
The character 南 [남] is one of four Hanja (the other being 東 [동], 北 [북] and 西 [서]) that represent the four cardinal points. This hanja represents ‘South’ and, as you can probably guess, it is used to specify where something lies. In this case, it specifies it is located in the South. This Hanja is often used as short form for South Korea specifically (only done in the context of South-North relations).
南 [남] Vocabulary
Along with the 3 other Hanja for the cardinal points, the Hanja 南 [남] is a rather flexible character. You can actually attach it to words that indicate an area to specify you are talking about the southern part of that area. You can do the same with the other characters for the other cardinal points respectively. As always focus on the character and its meaning, not the stroke order.
