The particle -까지 is a rather useful particle to know as it will allow you to express various things such as your destination and the end time of a certain activity. As you can imagine those things are rather important things you need to be able to express. It is often preceded by another particle.
The first way you can use -까지 is to express the destination of your movement. When you use it for this, you will typically use it along with the particle -에서, which expresses the point of departure. So it often appears in the form of -에서 -까지. Whereas -에서 on its own can easily express the point of departure, -까지 cannot as easily express the destination on its own as then you would typically use the particle -에.
가: 여기에서 기차역까지 가까워요?
나: 아니요, 기차역은 멀어요.
A: Is the train station near here?
B: No, the train station is far away.
The second way you can use the particle -까지 is to express the end time of a certain activity. You can also use it along with the particle -부터, which indicates the starting time of that activity. Unlike expressing destination, you can easily use -까지 on its own when talking about time.
가: 몇 시부터 볓 시까지 수업이 있어요.
나: 오전 아홉시 반부터 오후 아홉 시까지 있어요.
A: What time do you have classes?
B: I have classes from 9:30 A.M. to 9 P.M.
How To Use
Using the particle -까지 is not difficult whatsoever. It follows the rather simple ‘no rule’ rule in Korean grammar and thus you simply need to attach it to a noun and you are done. You needn’t worry over things like consonants or vowels.
Do keep in mind that depending on for what you use -까지 for, it is paired either with -에서 (place) or -부터 (time). They are typically not interchangeable. However, in certain situations, they are perfectly interchangeable without any loss in meaning. Though, it is best to keep them completely separate as to avoid making mistakes needlessly.
